Scarboro Beach Park, opened in 1907 along Toronto's eastern lakeshore, was one of Canada's premier amusement and athletic destinations in the early twentieth century. Beyond its popular midway rides and bathing pavilion, the park hosted serious competitive sport — most notably a purpose-built bicycle velodrome that drew elite cyclists from across North America. The steeply banked oval track staged high-speed racing events that packed grandstands with thousands of spectators. Though the park closed in 1925 and was eventually redeveloped as Kew Beach Park, its velodrome represented a brief golden era when cycling was a marquee spectator sport in Ontario.
