Eastern Commerce Collegiate: Toronto's Basketball Dynasty
Few high school programs in Canadian history match the basketball legacy of Eastern Commerce Collegiate. From a tiny gymnasium that barely seemed fit for the purpose, the Saints claimed an extraordinary 24 senior boys city championships between 1976 and their closure, missing the city final only four times in that span. In 2001, Eastern became the first high school program ever to win four consecutive OFSAA provincial titles, a dynasty built on community, character, and relentless work ethic. Alumni included NBA All-Star Jamaal Magloire, and scores of players went on to compete at the NCAA level. When Eastern Commerce closed in 2015, it left behind the most decorated basketball legacy in Toronto history.
