Founded in 1868, the London Tecumsehs became the first Canadian professional baseball team to win a championship when they claimed the 1877 International Association pennant. Defeating the Pittsburgh Alleghenies. Led by ace Fred Goldsmith, one of baseball's earliest curveball pitchers, they beat top competition from across North America. After the season, the Tecumsehs were offered National League membership but declined, and folded the following year due to financial difficulties. Their championship remained Canada's only professional baseball title until Toronto's 1992 World Series victory 115 years later.
