Collection: Metro Jr B Hockey
The Metro Junior B Hockey League began with six Toronto-area clubs in 1950 and officially took the Metropolitan Toronto name in 1956. Its early years featured clubs such as the St. Mike's Buzzers, Dixie Beehives, Weston Dukes, Whitby Dunlops, Brampton 7Ups and Woodbridge Dodgers. Over the decades it grew from a handful of teams to as many as 14, with clubs from Mississauga to Oshawa, Belleville, Kingston and Peterborough. Many of its players moved on to the OHA, and in the 1980s and 1990s the league became a key route to college hockey, producing more than 200 future NCAA players. Wayne Gretzky won Metro Rookie of the Year honours after a 60-point season in 28 games. The league ran as Junior B into the early 1990s, and in 1991 it was redesignated Junior A.
